It’s the day we’ve all been (impatiently) waiting for…Sound City 10TH anniversary headliners: SHOW YOURSELVES

THIS is what Monday’s should always be about. The only problem is we’ve now got to wait 4 months to get this amazing party started – but at least we now have something to daydream about. Plus, it’s 4 days of celebrations now and not two.  Get in.

As ever, Sound City CEO Dave Pichilingi promises huge things: “We’ve pulled out all the stops for our tenth birthday. We wanted to do something really special, not just to mark to occasion but also to reward all those loyal Sound Citizens who have come with us on this amazing ten-year journey and I think you’ll agree the line-up is incredible.

“I think the term legend is over-used these days but we have bona fide music legends on the bill every single day of the festival and we still have lots more to announce.  It is without doubt the best line-up we’ve ever announced and one not to be missed. It’s going to be one hell of a party!”

That being said, here’s the quick lowdown:

Thursday 25th May – Human League & Support

A trio of some of the most influential and avant-garde bands of the modern era; The Human League, Art of Noise and A Certain Ratio. Human League have acquired a remarkable career that spans five decades – changing the face of pop and the sound of future electronic music forever. Front man Phil Oakley seems equally as chuffed at the news: “We love playing for the people of Liverpool, they are properly passionate music fans and we’ve always felt at home in their beautiful city”. Cheers Phil!

Friday 26th May – John Cale presents The Velvet Underground & Nico

It’s been a few months since news broke of the legend that is John Cale’s Nico performance for the City of Sound’s 10th Bday. Although the performance was initially announced as a stand-alone show to celebrate the Nico albums 50th anniversary (which sold out like the speed of lightening), a limited number of additional tickets has now been released as the music giant is welcomed into the Sound City celebrations. You’ve got to be quick when Cale’s in town guys.

 Saturday 27th May – Metronomy & Support

Nu-disco is the sound of Saturday, thanks to indie-tronica loves Metronomy. Prepare for a genre-busting set of sublime electronica beats featuring hits from five studio albums. The impressive lineup doesn’t stop there: lo-fi rockers The Kills, nu-punk upstarts Slaves, art-pop provocateur Peaches, alt rock prodigies The Hunna, Libertines front man Carl Barat & The Jackals, feted electro-rock five piece Pumarosa, Fickle Friends and of course, loads more.

Sunday 28th May – The Kooks & Support

Closing the 2014 Sound City celebrations, the Kook lads are etched into the history of the festival. Cue a perfect finale. Again, support doesn’t fall short of amazing - post-punk trio White Lies, American indie-innovators Local Natives, dance-punk agitators !!! (Chk Chk Chk), newly reformed Milburn, dreamy psych-popsters She Drew The Gun, anarcho-rockers Cabbage, The Sherlocks, Liverpool’s very own psychedelic adventurers The Vryll Society and a host of other diverse and exciting acts.

Set your alarms guys, tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 27th January.
