Whether we like admitting it or not, we all like coming first – and we think Merseyside’s new accolade is set to start 2017 off nicely.

The online accommodation site heavyweight, LateRooms.com, has just named Merseyside the UK’s best place to stay in 2017, based on stats gathered thanks to feedback from (lovely) hotel guests. The site unveiled their Top Rated hotels list, as part of its annual Simply The Guest Awards, firmly placing Merseyside at the very top of everyone’s hotel bucket list.

Average guest review scores determine those that are shortlisted, and hotels must have an average review rating of 80 percent or above to make it. With the highest proportion of Top Rated accommodation, little old us has landed that top spot – and we’re made up.

According to LateRooms.com spokesperson, Andrea Tarpey: “Guest reviews are so important and give unbiased insight into what you can expect from a hotel stay. This provides other travellers with invaluable insight into what they can expect when choosing a property and gives hotels feedback on the experiences they’re providing. It’s really interesting to see Merseyside rise to the top of the list with the highest concentration of Top Rated hotels, meaning that when you book a hotel in Merseyside, the chances of that property providing you with a fantactic guest experience are higher than anywhere else in the UK. The area also really offers an all-in-one package with a bustling city as well as picturesque seaside towns.”

“When you book a hotel in Merseyside, the chances of that property providing you with a fantactic guest experience are higher than anywhere else in the UK.”

Chris Brown, Director of Marketing Liverpool, adds:

“Liverpool and the whole of Merseyside is still considered a hidden gem of the UK. It’s fantastic to get the recognition from LateRooms highlighting the high concentration of quality hotel accommodation in the area. We are an ideal location for a short break, offering an unbelievably wide array of things to do and sights to see.”

In terms of Top Rated cities, Merseyside’s Liverpool also ranked top, being the city with the highest proportion of Top Rated properties, with one for every square mile of the city.  In comparison, London came in at position 43.

Get in! What a way to start the year.
