“I’m amped about being a part of Laces Out!

Liverpool’s laces out was never just about the trainers. Truth be told, trainers themselves are rarely just about the shoes.

An essential fashion statement, granted, but sneakers also fit nicely into numerous pop-culture categories, including sport, film, technology, advertising and (obviously) music – just ask sneaker freaks Kanye West, Run DMC or Noel Gallagher.

So we weren’t surprised to hear that Liverpool’s laces out, the ultimate celebration of sneaker culture, was bringing an unmissable line-up of DJ’s to this year’s event.

Taking place at Camp and Furnace on Saturday 5th March, Laces Out! 2016 will feature legendary Hip-Hop DJ Bobbito Garcia, who will head-up the very first Laces Out! Lab; A multi-faceted programme featuring curated sneaker culture and lifestyle figures from the industry.

Radio 1Xtra’s DJ Semtex, a self-confessed sneaker fiend, will be joining Bobbito, who is also famous for his footwear bible ‘Where’d you get those? NYC’s Sneaker Culture: 1980-1987.

Laces Out! curator Rob May said: “With Laces Out! Festival SS16 we really focused on enhancing every aspect of the event as well as celebrating peripheral sneaker culture within the Laces Out! Lab.

“The feedback on the programme so far, has been overwhelming and it’s our ambition to continue to grow and get better each and every time. We hope that all hard-core and casual sneaker heads can come and find something great to experience and get involved in at this event”

Speaking to It’s Liverpool about his appearance, Bobbito Garcia said: “I’m amped about being a part of Laces Out! I love that sneaker events, that support this culture are popping up all over the world. I’ve never been to Liverpool and I can’t wait.  I hope they’re ready for me, haha!”

Also performing will be UK Hip Hop pioneers Rodney P and Skitz as well as a selection of the region’s best DJ’s including DJ Stylus, No Fakin, DJ 2Kind, Madnice and Pooky with more to be announced.

A special panel looking at the Culture of Sneakers, will feature respected names from the industry including Megan Munro (Style Editor, Complex Magazine), Alex Synamatix (Editor, The Daily Street), Benji Blunt (Sneaker Customiser) and more.
