Threshold Festival 2015

Fresh Thinking

Chris Carney, Threshold’s Festival Director

Threshold Festival kicks off today (April 1 2016) with the main thrust of activity taking place over the weekend. If you’ve already got plans, change them because Threshold’s festival of music and arts is bound to be better.

We caught up with Chris Carney, Festival Director, to find out more about what’s in store.

“We started Threshold Festival 5 years ago because we were part of an incredible burgeoning music, art and creative network that we felt deserved to be showcased on a larger scale” Chris says.

“Over the years it’s become much more to the city and also to us because it gives artists something which so many people in these industries don’t get - a chance. Since the start we’ve perpetuated the mantra to our artists; “Do you have an idea that you’d like to try, but aren’t sure about? Try it with us.” and we feel like this attitude has made us a really interesting and inclusive festival.”

This year Chris and the team are looking forward to some of the great collaborations - such as Mad Pride, a huge celebration of mental health in the arts. An exciting jam including spoken word, drumming, dance and traditional South American music will take place in Constellations, headed up by One Latin Culture percussion maestro Francisco Carrasco.

Theatre, dance, art and performance weave through the three days - making Threshold the city’s most freewheeling and fun festival. But, it being Liverpool, music is at the heart of everything. “Multi-arts is the true nature of the festival this year,” Chris says. “We aim to combine arts as much as possible across the event, with lots of exciting international collaborative projects.”

Threshold runs from 1st - 3rd April.  The event is taking place at a number of venues across Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle area, including Baltic Social, District, The Observatory and Liverpool Craft Beer Space.
